Patchwork Poetry:A Literary Mosaic: Erasmus+ and Patchwork Poetry Inspire Our Students on the Refugee Crisis
A Literary Mosaic: Erasmus+ and Patchwork Poetry Inspire Our Students on the Refugee Crisis
A special creative project was successfully implemented by our students, in December 2024 as part of an initiative to raise awareness about the refugee crisis. Drawing inspiration from selected poems about refugees, the children experimented with the innovative "Patchwork Poetry" technique. This specific method was acquired and brought to our school community by our teachers, following their participation in an Erasmus+ European training program focused on learning and utilizing the English language in educational practice.
This technique functions like a literary "mosaic": students analyzed the original texts, selected words, verses, and phrases that touched them deeply, and by recomposing them, created their own entirely original poems. Through this experiential process, the children did not just come into contact with language and literature (both English and Greek), but became co-creators themselves. They managed to express, with unique empathy, the pain, hope, and resilience of displaced people. This initiative highlights the importance of European programs in renewing teaching practices, as well as the power of art to cultivate social awareness and solidarity in the hearts of our youth.
This project was designed and implemented by the literature teacher, Efi Liakopoulou.
